The play: lineman-turned-receiver

Brandon Coleman, an offensive lineman for the Washington Commanders, recorded the first reception of his NFL career after a pass was batted into the air and ended up in his hands during the Indianapolis Colts' 30-13 win over Washington at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
Late in the fourth quarter, quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis — who had come in after Marcus Mariota left with an injury — saw a pass batted at the line of scrimmage. The deflection ricocheted away from pursuing Colts defenders and into Brandon Coleman’s hands. The offensive lineman secured the ball and converted a first down on a 13-yard gain that the box score credited as a catch — the first reception of Coleman’s NFL career.
The sequence featured a near-opportunity for the Colts to turn the ball over; a defender attempting a leaping interception collided with a teammate, knocking away a play that might have ended in a turnover. Instead the tipped ball found Coleman and extended the Commanders’ drive.
Context and aftermath
Coleman briefly left the game with an apparent injury after the improbable reception but returned after missing only one play, allowing the moment to live on despite Washington ultimately failing to change the scoreboard.
The Colts controlled the final result, cruising to a 30-13 victory. Jonathan Taylor paced Indianapolis’s ground game with 95 rushing yards and two touchdowns, powering the club to its second win of the season. Kaliakmanis finished 15-of-33 for 186 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
Washington outgained Indianapolis, 317 yards to 257, but still lost 30-13; the Commanders' final possession stalled and a turnover on downs ended the game.
The catch was a rare footnote — a starting tackle credited with a reception that moved the chains — and it provided a bright, improbable highlight for a Commanders offense operating without its starter. For Coleman, the 13-yard grab was the first reception of his NFL career.
