Colby Wooden's quick jump into the rotation

Wooden's role was immediate and tangible: he played 18 defensive snaps and finished the game with two tackles, including one solo stop. Head coach Kellen Moore said Wooden "was really well prepared" and that he "took advantage of that short window" to acclimate to the Saints' system.
Moore added that Wooden brings "good juice" and the "ability to play across the line in a couple different spots," and also cited Wooden's previous NFL experience as a reason the transition required little time. New Orleans claimed Wooden with the intent to improve the defensive line, and the staff's decision to put him on the field after only a brief adjustment period suggested that belief was already paying off.
Practice-squad elevation and roster churn ahead of Week 2
The Saints also made moves in the days after Week 1 that reshaped depth and special-teams personnel. The team placed Zach Wood on injured reserve, and later added CJ Donaldson to the active roster from the practice squad ahead of Week 2.
Yardbarker reported that Saints insider Nick Underhill first broke the news of Donaldson's elevation. The promotion gives Donaldson a clear path to see game action: while it does not guarantee a heavy workload, Yardbarker noted the move places him one snap away from contributing if injuries or game script create an opening.
The timing of Donaldson's promotion alongside Zach Wood's placement on injured reserve underscores the fluidity of early-season rosters, when practice-squad elevations and in-season IR moves often force quick adjustments. Yardbarker framed the elevation as a practical step to test a young player's readiness in live-game conditions.
Alongside those personnel shifts, the Saints also added Kyrese Rowan to the roster after he cleared waivers with the Denver Broncos. The signing was part of a broader effort to tweak the defensive front during the opening slate of games.
