Levi Onwuzurike, a former second‑round pick out of Washington in 2021, was among the cuts the Lions made on Friday. The move ends a run in which Onwuzurike had remained on Detroit’s roster since his rookie season.
Yardbarker reported that Onwuzurike’s time with the Lions had been repeatedly interrupted by injury and that he spent much of training camp working with the team’s third‑team defense. That report added he eventually ceded a larger role in camp to younger lineman Tyler Lacy.
Tyre West, practice‑squad status and roster mechanics
Detroit also released Tyre West, a recent seventh‑round draft pick who had been on the practice squad. West, a seventh‑round pick out of Tennessee, struggled to make an impact during a limited preseason workload.
