Durham Smythe's Season Ended by Torn Achilles Injury Against Titans

Diagnosis confirmed, timing of the injury

Durham Smythe Out for Season After Torn Achilles, Leaving Ravens Short at Blocking Tight End

Durham Smythe will miss the remainder of the 2026 season after tearing his Achilles tendon during Baltimore’s 24-18 win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. An MRI confirmed the tear, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on X.

Smythe started all four games in his first season with the Baltimore Ravens and had been a regular contributor in the early weeks. Through four games he played 50 percent of the offensive snaps and 28 percent of special teams snaps, and he has one catch for four yards on two targets this season.

The 31-year-old signed a one-year, $3 million deal with Baltimore after spending 2025 with the Chicago Bears.

What Smythe's absence means for the Ravens' tight end room and offense

Smythe has primarily been used as a blocking tight end, and his season-ending injury removes a starter who accounted for half of the team’s tight end snaps to date. Yardbarker noted that losing Smythe strips the Ravens of a regular contributor in the run-blocking schemes that support Derrick Henry.

That change arrives while the Ravens sit 3-1 and second in the AFC North. Smythe, who was used mainly as a blocking tight end and was a regular contributor in run-blocking schemes that support Derrick Henry, will need to have his responsibilities reallocated across the remaining personnel group.

Smythe started all four games and handled roughly half of the offensive snaps and 28 percent of special teams snaps through four weeks, leaving a notable gap the Ravens must address on game days.

With the season still early, the Ravens’ next steps will be framed by game-plan needs and available depth, but the confirmed torn Achilles removes a dependable, veteran blocker from the rotation and forces an immediate adjustment in both offensive and special teams usage.
