Final drive delivers Nashville walk-off
The Philadelphia Eagles rallied in the closing minutes, rallying from a 20-17 deficit to beat the Tennessee Titans 24-20 in Nashville.
With 1:56 remaining and the Eagles trailing, Hurts engineered a 62-yard, eight-play drive that ended with a 3-yard touchdown to Darius Cooper with nine seconds on the clock. Hurts completed six of eight passes for 61 yards on that march without a timeout, closing the game with a composed sequence after an up-and-down afternoon.
Tennessee had taken a 20-17 lead moments earlier, finishing a 69-yard drive with a 33-yard field goal by Joey Slye. The Titans’ march included a 41-yard completion to Elic Ayomanor and a 27-yard run by Tyjae Spears that moved the ball to the Eagles’ 9-yard line, but Jalen Carter’s sack for a 9-yard loss pushed Tennessee out of the end zone and forced the field-goal decision.
Hurts finished 26 of 37 for 264 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, closing the contest on the signature drive that handed Philadelphia a 2-0 start to the season.
DeVonta Smith, protection issues and defensive swings
DeVonta Smith was a consistent target all afternoon, catching 10 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown. His 19-yard connection on third-and-6 along the left sideline set up a first-and-goal at the 3-yard line with 14 seconds remaining; three consecutive receptions from Smith helped push the Eagles into scoring position and paved the way for Cooper’s winning score.
The game’s tone shifted after halftime when Dallas Goedert left with a knee injury. Protection problems followed, with the offense frequently working outside the pocket and Hurts absorbing more pressure—circumstances that coincided with the interceptions that kept the contest tight.
Philadelphia’s defense produced pivotal moments as well. Carter’s late sack on Cam Ward was critical in forcing Tennessee to settle for the field goal that briefly gave the Titans the lead. Carter briefly exited with an apparent injury during the kick but returned after what was described as a left-calf cramp and remained a factor late in the game.
The win felt familiar: a narrow escape that required clutch execution down the stretch. Hurts’ final-series precision and Smith’s steady playmaking stood out as the decisive elements in a game the Eagles ultimately pulled out in the final seconds.
