Financially, the market expectations for Porter are high. ESPN analyst Bill Barnwell projects Porter could command more than $30 million per season on a new deal — a figure that, Barnwell suggests, may be difficult for the Steelers to accommodate.
Barnwell also laid out scenarios tied to Porter’s next season: if he returns and performs at a high level, the team might opt not to engage in a protracted contract battle and could allow him to depart in free agency rather than risk discord. Conversely, strong play this year could push his market even higher and make retaining him more expensive.
