Josh Jacobs Activated by Packers, Set to Return Against Lions in Week 7

The Green Bay Packers activated running back Josh Jacobs from the NFL’s commissioner’s exempt list Saturday, making him eligible to return to the field for the team's pivotal Week 7 matchup against the Detroit Lions.

The move ends a six-week absence that began Aug. 30, when Jacobs was placed on the commissioner’s exempt list and barred from practicing or playing while the league reviewed the case. The activation clears the procedural hurdle for Jacobs to rejoin game-day rosters immediately.

ESPN reported that Jacobs was activated Saturday and is expected to start Sunday’s game, a development that would give Green Bay an experienced ball-carrier.

Legal status, discipline risk and Jacobs’ response

Jacobs pleaded no contest in September to misdemeanor battery and criminal damage to property stemming from an incident in May. He was fined $1,000 on the battery charge and entered a deferred judgment on the property-damage count. A criminal complaint alleged Jacobs grabbed his then-girlfriend, threw her to the ground and damaged her phone; those details remain part of the record.

The NFL’s investigation into the matter remains open and the league could impose additional discipline. The New York Post noted that if the NFL were to issue a suspension of six games or fewer, Jacobs’ time on the exempt list would count toward that penalty.

Jacobs addressed reporters this week for the first time since the incident, saying he was “remorseful and sorry for putting this team in this situation,” according to The Athletic. He added, “Sometimes when you go through life, situations occur, and a four-second, three-second decision can alter your life, honestly.” His attorneys have said he accepts responsibility and is eager to rejoin his teammates.

What Jacobs’ return means for Green Bay

With Jacobs eligible to play, the Packers have activated the running back, and he is expected to start Week 7 against the Detroit Lions.

While the legal process and the league’s review remain open, Jacobs’ availability for Sunday provides the Packers with an additional on-field resource. How the coaching staff uses him — and whether the NFL imposes further discipline — will shape the short-term impact of his return.
