Love’s big day and Watson’s deep plays set the tone

The Green Bay Packers poured in 31 points at Lambeau Field Sunday, handing the Chicago Bears a 31-7 defeat that showcased a clean offensive performance and opportunistic defense. Jordan Love completed 25 of 31 passes for 367 yards — the most passing yards a Packers quarterback has produced against the Bears at Lambeau Field — and keyed a vertical attack that the Bears struggled to contain.
Christian Watson was on the receiving end of Love’s biggest throws. Watson finished with six receptions for 143 yards and caught two long touchdown passes — a 42-yarder in the first quarter and a 53-yarder in the third — that flipped momentum in Green Bay’s favor early and again after halftime. Watson’s four-year, $92 million contract extension signed in June was a prominent subplot entering the season; on Sunday he turned that investment into explosive production on the field.
Rookie Matthew Golden also made life difficult for Chicago’s secondary, posting a career-high 123 receiving yards on six catches and providing another dependable target for Love across the middle and downfield.
Defense, turnovers and control delivered the margin

Green Bay’s defense turned the game into a one-sided affair by converting takeaways into points. Safety Xavier McKinney intercepted two passes, and Green Bay’s ability to seize the ball repeatedly swung field position decisively. The Packers forced five turnovers in the game; Yahoo! News confirmed the total takeaways, which the defense converted into a steady stream of scoring opportunities.
The turnover haul helped erase Chicago’s usual advantage in time of possession. Wisn 12 News noted that the Packers flipped the script on a Bears team that had entered the day leading the NFL in average time of possession, and that Green Bay outgained Chicago 130 yards to 9 in the first quarter while controlling the ball for 11 minutes, 45 seconds in that opening period.
Those early sequences mattered. Watson’s opening touchdown completed a 91-yard drive on Green Bay’s first possession, and two plays after that drive Wisconsin’s report said McKinney’s first interception gave the Packers the ball at Chicago’s 45. Green Bay then capped a 5:36 drive with a MarShawn Lloyd rushing touchdown to make it 14-0 early in the second quarter. Wisn 12 News reported that the rushing score came on a 7-yard run and was Lloyd’s first career rushing touchdown; it followed a six-yard receiving touchdown he had recorded earlier in the season.
Chicago did respond before halftime — D’Andre Swift punched in a 1-yard touchdown on fourth-and-goal to cut the deficit — but Green Bay regained control after the break and closed out the game while protecting the ball and feeding Love in rhythm.
Stat sheet and standings
The box score underscored the margin: Green Bay totaled 428 yards of offense to Chicago’s 246, including 165 passing yards for the Bears and 367 through the air for the Packers. The final score moved Green Bay to 3-2 on the season, its first time above .500 this year.
Chicago started the game without Caleb Williams and Tyson Bagent was the starter in his stead; the change at quarterback was official and factored into the game script. Green Bay’s defensive performance flipped the turnover differential in its favor — Yahoo! News reported the Packers improved from minus-2 to plus-3 after Sunday — and the takeaway-dominant performance was a clear tactical advantage late in the contest.
Individual flashes complemented the team win. Watson’s two touchdown grabs and long-yardage day reinforced why the Packers invested in him this offseason, and Matthew Golden’s career-high receiving total added another offensive dimension. On the defensive side, McKinney’s pair of interceptions and the collective ability to force five turnovers tilted field position and scoreboard opportunities decisively toward Green Bay.
When the dust settled at Lambeau, the Packers had produced a convincing, complementary performance: high-efficiency passing from Love, explosive plays from Watson and a defense that created multiple short fields. That combination was the difference in a 31-7 result that left Green Bay above .500 and Chicago searching for answers after a one-sided road trip to Green Bay.
