Discussions underway as Kansas City’s receiving room takes hits

Kansas City has been in discussions with Tyreek Hill about a potential reunion after the Chiefs lost two receivers in Sunday’s win over Las Vegas, sources say. The team entered its bye week unbeaten at 4-0 but saw Rashee Rice sidelined by a hamstring injury and Tyquan Thornton suffer a dislocated left ankle.
A team source told Sporting News, "we've remained in contact" with Hill and his agent Drew Rosenhaus, and Sporting News reported that conversations about a reunion have taken place. The timing gives both sides extra runway: the Chiefs are on bye this week, which would provide Hill additional time to ramp up if a deal were struck.
Hill’s health, timeline and why Kansas City makes sense
Tyreek Hill’s 2025 season ended when he dislocated his left knee and tore multiple ligaments, including the ACL, and that serious injury required lengthy rehabilitation that has continued into the 2026 season. Miami released Hill in February, and he has remained a free agent since.
Hill enters any conversation with a rare track record: he owns 11,363 career receiving yards and elite speed, and Kansas City originally selected him in the fifth round of the 2016 draft before he developed into one of the league’s top receivers. The existing chemistry with Patrick Mahomes and familiarity with the offense make a reunion an obvious fit if Hill is cleared and chooses the Chiefs.
Hill has posted workout footage showing progress, and his representatives are talking with interested teams, Yahoo! News reported. Those discussions have included several franchises — the 49ers, Patriots, Vikings, Chiefs and Ravens have all been linked as possible fits, Yahoo! News added.
Agent Drew Rosenhaus told Sporting News he foresees movement soon. "I would anticipate Tyreek potentially signing with a team over the next few days," Rosenhaus said, a projection that raises the possibility of a quick resolution as teams scramble to shore up their rosters.
Travis Kelce’s public reaction has been clear-eyed: he said he would "love to have 'The Cheetah' back in this building," a sentiment captured by Yahoo! News that underscores the mutual familiarity between player and franchise. Rosenhaus has also said Hill wants to join a true contender this season, Yahoo! News reported, a preference that helps explain why Kansas City remains a frequent name in the conversation.
For now, the lead development is procedural: talks are happening and timelines are being discussed, not a completed transaction. The Chiefs’ bye week affords breathing room, but any signing will hinge on medical clearance, Hill’s decision and the terms agreed with his representatives.
