Eric Kibirango: The Naminya Wonderkid Turning Dreams into Goals

Uganda’s football landscape continues to witness the rise of young talents, and among the names attracting attention is Eric Kibirango, a gifted player whose journey from the fields of Naminya to professional football is becoming an inspiring story of determination, versatility and natural ability.

Born on 5th July 2006 in Naminya, Kibirango began his football journey at Jinja Progressive Academy (JIPRA) in 2022 while in Senior Two. What started as a school football experience quickly developed into a remarkable career, as he grew into one of the most productive players in the academy’s history.

Playing mainly as a left fullback, Kibirango shocked many with his attacking ability, registering an impressive 74 goals from S.2 to S.6. He became popularly known for his unique “Labona” skill, a technique that turned into his trademark on the pitch. The young star scored 17 Labona goals, earning admiration from fans and teammates for his creativity and confidence.

His attacking instincts later saw him transform into a more advanced role. While playing for Thunder Boyz SC in Mayuge, Kibirango operated as a left forward, where he flourished under coach Timothy Tirulaga, the coach who identified his potential as a forward and helped develop his attacking qualities.

During his time at Thunder Boyz SC, Kibirango featured in 75 matches, scoring 51 goals — a record that established him as one of the most exciting young attackers in the region. His performances earned him the recognition of being named Player of the Season in Mayuge and he also became a national-level top scorer.

Kibirango’s success was also reflected in the team’s achievements, as he helped Thunder Boyz SC secure six titles in two seasons, cementing his reputation as a player capable of delivering in important moments.

His football journey continued with appearances for BUL JT and Butembe Sazza in 2024, where he continued to gain valuable experience and exposure. His performanceshas been closely monitored as he moved closer to the professional stage.

Currently, Kibirango is representing Bulemeezi in the Buganda Masaza Cup, where he has already made an impact, contributing one goal and two assists in three appearances. His performances have further highlighted his ability to create chances, score goals and influence matches.

The latest chapter of his rising career came when he secured a deal with BUL senior team, joining a club that has built a reputation for developing and promoting talent from Eastern Uganda.

At just 20 years of age, Eric Kibirango’s journey represents the dream of many young footballers — from local pitches in Naminya, through school football, regional competitions and now towards the professional game.

With his attacking mindset, versatility, goal-scoring record and trademark Labona magic, Kibirango is proving that he is not just a player of today, but a prospect with the potential to become one of Uganda’s future football stars.

He has been taking on his actions at Busoga United and helped the team finish the season in the second position.
