Falcons make a late practice-squad move
The Atlanta Falcons signed offensive lineman Josh Thompson to their practice squad Tuesday, filling a key depth spot on the offensive front.
The addition leaves the Falcons with one remaining practice-squad opening after they promoted Josh Woods to the 53-man roster earlier on Monday. That lone vacancy gives Atlanta flexibility to add one more player without an immediate corresponding move.
Khalid Kareem visits amid search for defensive depth
Atlanta hosted defensive end Khalid Kareem on a visit Tuesday as the team continues to evaluate options for its defensive line. Kareem is a familiar presence to the organization — he appeared in four games for the Falcons last season, Si reported — and his visit signals the team is weighing experienced, short-term depth at the position.
Si noted that if the visit leads to a signing, that final practice-squad slot could be filled quickly. Falcons coaches have recently worked to bolster the front, and Kareem’s familiarity with the environment figures to be a factor in the club’s evaluation, Si added.
Nathan Carter lands on Chiefs practice squad
Former Falcons running back Nathan Carter has moved on to the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad, Yahoo! News confirmed. Carter, an undrafted free agent out of Michigan State, originally signed with the Falcons after the 2025 NFL Draft and made Atlanta’s roster out of training camp.
Carter appeared in seven games for Atlanta last season, rushing nine times for 60 yards while playing mostly on special teams. He landed on the Kansas City Chiefs' practice squad, and his special-teams work and some kick-return ability could help his chances of eventually making the club's 53-man roster.
Per Yahoo! News, Carter’s 2026 preseason included a few notable miscues that likely hurt his chances of returning to Atlanta, but the Chiefs appear willing to explore his potential in a new setting.
With Thompson now aboard and one practice-squad spot remaining, Atlanta’s roster picture is still in flux. Kareem’s visit gives the Falcons an option with prior familiarity to the club, while Carter’s move to Kansas City closes the chapter on a two-year run that began in Atlanta.
