Hurts sidelined ahead of Sunday; Eagles signing Joe Milton off Cowboys' practice squad

The Eagles added Joe Milton to their roster Friday, signing him off the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad as the club deals with a sudden loss at the top of its depth chart.

Jalen Hurts will miss Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers after being diagnosed Thursday with a superficial blood clot in his calf. Team and league reporting confirm Hurts will be unavailable for the matchup and is out while the club addresses the condition.

With Jalen Hurts sidelined because of a blood clot, the Eagles have signed Joe Milton off the Dallas practice squad to bolster depth ahead of Sunday's game.

Milton, 26, was signed off Dallas' practice squad and immediately added to Philadelphia's active roster. He was a sixth-round pick by New England in 2024 and had been on Dallas' practice squad to begin the 2026 season.

Milton competed for the No. 2 job behind Dak Prescott in Dallas' training camp, ultimately losing the race to Sam Howell and landing on the Cowboys' practice squad. The Eagles are signing him off that practice squad, and his arrival may close the door to a reunion with veteran Andy Dalton, who was released earlier this month.

NBC Sports noted that Milton's arrival could diminish the likelihood of a reunion with Dalton, who was released earlier this month.

The move gives the Eagles an experienced option on the roster while McKee prepares for the start. Philadelphia's decision to pick Milton from a division rival's practice squad underscores the immediacy of the need created by Hurts' diagnosis and the team's current stretch of injuries and roster turnover.

Milton's addition preserves the club's ability to manage the quarterback spot in the near term; how long Hurts will be sidelined beyond Sunday's game is being handled by team medical staff. The Eagles will head into the weekend with McKee under center and Milton available as the depth piece brought in to stabilize the position group while Hurts recovers.
