The fine stems from a dead‑ball unnecessary‑roughness incident that occurred at 11:23 of the first quarter, during the opponent’s extra‑point attempt after a touchdown. League video review determined Crosby illegally used his helmet during that post‑play sequence, prompting the penalty on the field and the subsequent monetary punishment.

NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo shared footage of the incident when the punishment was revealed on Oct. 17, and the amount issued matches the figure listed in the NFL’s published fine schedule for a first offense involving impermissible helmet use or launching.

Discipline and context for the Raiders

The $23,882 fine was the largest single fine handed out by the NFL that week. The league’s decision and the recorded review underline the NFL’s continued enforcement of rules against illegal helmet use on post‑play activity.

For the Las Vegas Raiders, the penalty was a financial sanction tied to conduct on a dead‑ball play: the NFL fined Maxx Crosby $23,882 for dead‑ball unnecessary roughness after video showed he illegally used his helmet during the post‑play event.

Beyond the monetary cost, the fine serves as a reminder to players and teams that infractions during post‑play moments remain subject to review and discipline. The league’s public release of the punishment and the accompanying footage shared by NFL Network emphasize the NFL’s protocol for documenting and penalizing such incidents.

While the discipline here is specifically monetary, the league’s use of video review to identify and enforce a dead‑ball helmet violation demonstrates how post‑play behavior is monitored and addressed under the current rules and fine schedule.
