What unfolded at the team facility

Titans release Jordan Elliott after practice altercation, surveillance shows him heading to vehicle

The Tennessee Titans announced Tuesday that they released Jordan Elliott following an incident at the team facility on Thursday, Oct. 15.

Reporting by NBC Sports describes a heated on-field confrontation between Elliott and offensive lineman JC Latham that ended with Elliott being told to leave the practice field. NBC Sports further reported that surveillance footage captured Elliott leaving the facility and walking toward the players’ parking area, where he was seen heading to his vehicle to retrieve what was described as a firearm. It remains unclear from the available reporting whether Elliott actually retrieved the weapon or returned to the field with it.

Newschannel 5 reported that ESPN’s Adam Schefter said a source confirmed Elliott was attempting to retrieve a gun from his vehicle after the altercation. The Nashville Metro Nashville Police Department told AtoZSports.com that, as of Tuesday afternoon, no police reports had been filed regarding the incident, NBC Sports reported.

Multiple outlets report that teammate John Franklin-Myers intervened as the situation escalated, preventing Elliott from going further toward the vehicle, a move Yahoo! News described as de-escalating the situation.

The Titans designated Elliott inactive for Sunday’s win over the Indianapolis Colts before releasing him on Tuesday, Yahoo! News reported. The club’s statement described the move as stemming from an “incident at our team facility.”

Yahoo! News also reported that the NFL has opened an immediate investigation into the altercation and the reported presence of a firearm at the Tennessee facility.

Coach’s response and roster context

Yardbarker reported that coach Robert Saleh addressed Elliott’s release internally and characterized the episode as a “call for help.” Yardbarker published Saleh’s comments urging other teams to evaluate Elliott’s on-field value while also signaling concern for the player personally: “My message to 31 other teams: If you need a hell of a run-stopping D-tackle that can help on a playoff run, give me a call,” the outlet wrote.

Yardbarker also noted that the Titans signed Elliott to a two-year, $8 million deal this offseason.

Reports circulating in the hours after the release have tied Elliott’s reaction at practice to off-field pressures; New York Post cited a source who said Elliott had been dealing with family issues that likely contributed to his conduct.

The Titans’ roster move and the league’s investigation leave outstanding questions about discipline and next steps for Elliott. For now, the team has moved to sever ties while the NFL reviews the matter and the club addresses safety concerns raised by the incident.
