Eagles move puts receiver on waivers
The Philadelphia Eagles are waiving wide receiver Samori Toure, NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport reported Saturday. Toure will be subject to the league's waiver process and can be claimed by another team before becoming a free agent.
The move comes as Philadelphia trims its roster to the 53-player limit for the start of the season. The waiver designation means Toure's immediate future will be decided by claims from other clubs over the next 24 hours; if unclaimed, he will enter free agency.
A career of short stops and limited opportunity
Toure, 28, entered the league as a seventh-round pick out of Nebraska in the 2022 NFL Draft. He made the Green Bay Packers' active roster as a rookie and debuted in Week 7 of that season, but his NFL career since has been a sequence of brief opportunities and roster churn.
He was placed on injured reserve in January 2024 and was released by the Packers later that year. Toure spent time on the Chicago Bears' practice squad, signed a futures contract with Chicago in January, but was cut before the following season. Subsequent stints included the Denver Broncos' practice squad and a period with the New Orleans Saints; he was waived this offseason by New Orleans.
On the field in 2025, Toure appeared in one game for the Saints and recorded a single reception for three yards. That limited statistical track record and a string of practice‑squad assignments underscore the uphill path he faces in securing a stable roster spot.
What the waiver process means for Toure
Being placed on waivers keeps the door open for teams that need receiver depth to claim him and add him immediately under his existing contract terms. Given Toure's experience on multiple practice squads and brief active-roster appearances, his familiarity with special teams work and previous game snaps could be factors that attract interest.
If no club claims him within the waiver window, Toure would become a free agent and be free to sign with any team — including practice squads — that offers a role. Across the past several seasons, his career has been defined by those kinds of short-term opportunities; the waiver result will determine whether he lands on another active roster or returns to the cycle of practice-squad signings and future contracts.
For now, Toure's status is squarely in the hands of the waiver process and NFL clubs weighing whether his limited game experience and developmental profile fit their immediate needs.
