Roster moves and game availability
The New England Patriots filled an open spot on their 53-man roster Saturday, signing running back Lan Larison from the practice squad and elevating wide receiver Ryan Miller to the active roster ahead of Sunday's game in Miami.
The moves follow a pair of absences for the trip: TreVeyon Henderson will not participate in the game due to an illness that kept him out of practice Thursday and Friday, and A.J. Brown has been ruled out for Sunday’s matchup, Yahoo! News reported.
What Larison and Miller bring to the active roster
Larison, a second-year back who originally joined New England as an undrafted free agent out of UC Davis in 2025, has been promoted to the active team rather than simply receiving a short-term elevation, signaling the club wanted a longer-term depth addition on the 53-man roster, Pats Pulpit reported.
New to the active roster this week, Larison made his NFL debut in the season opener against Seattle, catching two passes for nine yards and returning two kickoffs for 49 yards, Yahoo! News noted. He spent his rookie season on injured reserve after signing with the organization in 2025.
Ryan Miller signed with New England’s practice squad earlier this month after spending the beginning of the season with Miami, and the team elevated him to the active roster for the road game. Miller brings prior NFL experience: he has appeared in 30 games with six starts, totaling 17 receptions for 254 yards and four touchdowns, Yahoo! News reported.
With Brown unavailable and Henderson sidelined, the Patriots will rely on the adjusted depth chart in both the backfield and at receiver. By formally adding Larison to the 53-man roster rather than using a temporary elevation, New England has created a clearer role for the second-year running back for this week’s contest in Miami.
