Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. signed with the Minnesota Vikings' practice squad on Wednesday, Oct. 7, giving the veteran another path back onto an NFL roster after his recent release from the New York Giants.

Beckham arrives with a well-documented track record: 575 receptions for 7,987 yards and 59 touchdowns across 122 regular-season games. He made the Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons and won Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2014. Beckham also played a notable role during the Rams' 2021 postseason, catching 21 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns, and he scored in Super Bowl LVI before exiting the game with a knee injury.

Those credentials give Minnesota an experienced option to evaluate on the practice field. The signing does not put Beckham automatically into the active rotation, but it creates a low-cost opportunity for both player and team to determine whether a short-term or longer-term role is realistic.

Locker-room fit and the path forward

Beckham already has an established connection inside the receiver room: he and Justin Jefferson share ties to LSU. That relationship could help Beckham acclimate to the locker room, a point Yardbarker highlighted as a factor that might smooth his transition.

Yardbarker also noted that joining the practice squad does not guarantee an immediate promotion to the active roster. The outlet projected Beckham will need to learn the offense quickly and show the coaching staff he can contribute on game days before earning snaps. Yardbarker framed the move as a low-risk evaluation for the Vikings and a chance for Beckham to demonstrate he can still impact an NFL team.

From Minnesota's perspective, the signing gives the coaching staff another experienced receiver to work with in practice — someone who can stretch the field in individual drills and provide a veteran presence behind the starters. For Beckham, it is another opportunity to re-establish his value in live practices and potentially push for activation when the roster dictates.

Beckham's return to an NFL environment puts him back in a position to prove his availability and effectiveness. The practice-squad spot keeps the door open but leaves the timeline and ultimate impact unresolved — the next steps will depend on how quickly he adapts to the Vikings' playbook and how the staff evaluates him during preparation and walkthroughs.
