The New York Giants bolstered their depth Tuesday by adding Malik Harrison to the 53-man roster, filling the vacancy created when defensive lineman Chauncey Golston was placed on injured reserve over the weekend.
Roster move made official to secure depth

The transaction was announced by the team and immediately locks Harrison into the active roster. The signing follows Harrison exhausting his three practice-squad elevations and, per the team move, secures his spot on the 53-man roster for the remainder of the season while allowing the club to activate him once he is fully healthy.
Harrison had joined the organization’s practice squad roughly 10 days before the season opener, giving the Giants an internal option to replace Golston after the defensive lineman’s move to injured reserve opened a roster spot.
Early contributions and current availability
Yardbarker reported Harrison was elevated for each of the team’s first three games, where he played a primary role on special teams. In those appearances, he logged 56 snaps — about 85 percent of New York’s special-teams total during that span — recorded two tackles and recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff of the Giants’ Week 3 win over the Titans, Yardbarker added.
Yardbarker also reported Harrison missed the following two games while rehabbing an injury. With the permanent roster spot now secured, he can be activated when cleared to play, giving the Giants some restored flexibility on special teams and depth amid injuries.
The addition represents a pragmatic roster adjustment: the Giants convert a frequently elevated contributor into a full-time roster member to ensure availability later in the season. The team’s official move both replaces the injured Golston on the 53-man and preserves the option to bring Harrison back into the lineup as he returns to health.
