Lamar Jackson told Baltimore Ravens teammates he plans to return later this season after fracturing and dislocating his right thumb, reporter Ian Rapoport reported.
The quarterback shared his plans within 24 hours of the injury and urged teammates to keep the team afloat in his absence. Some teammates had feared his season was over.
Jackson is undergoing surgery and has been placed on injured reserve, but he has not been ruled out for the regular season. He suffered the injury on Baltimore’s first offensive snap against the Buffalo Bills in Week 8, after missing the previous three games with a high ankle sprain.

Jackson is expected to miss at least six weeks, though his rehabilitation could take closer to nine, Yardbarker reported. A return by early January is possible if his recovery goes well.

The Ravens are 4-5 and have a bye in Week 13. Their regular-season finale is at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 18.
