Brandon Davies has retired from professional basketball at 34 after a decorated career that included NBA experience, eight EuroLeague seasons, multiple domestic titles, and All-EuroLeague honors.
Brandon Davies has officially announced his retirement from professional basketball, bringing an end to a career that included stops in the NBA and at several of Europe's biggest clubs.
Japanese team Alvark Tokyo confirmed that Davies requested to retire, with the two sides subsequently agreeing to terminate his contract for the 2026-27 season.
"This is a very sudden announcement, but after much thought, I have decided to retire from professional basketball," Davies said in an official statement.
"I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone involved with Alvark Tokyo: the coaches, staff, and fans for the time I spent at this club. I will always cherish the memories we created together. Thank you very much."
Davies ends career after one season in Japan
Davies joined Alvark ahead of the 2025-26 campaign following a season with Partizan Belgrade.
In his only Japanese B.League season, the 34-year-old center averaged 13.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.0 blocks over 23 regular-season appearances.
His retirement comes less than two months after Alvark announced that Davies had agreed to remain with the club for the 2026-27 season, with his contract initially set to run through June 30, 2027.
From the NBA to becoming a EuroLeague star
Davies played four collegiate seasons at BYU between 2009 and 2013, earning All-WCC First Team honors in each of his final two campaigns.
After going undrafted in the 2013 NBA Draft, he began his professional career with the Philadelphia 76ers and later joined the Brooklyn Nets.
Davies made 78 NBA regular-season appearances, including six starts, averaging 3.7 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 0.7 assists in 12.8 minutes per game.
He moved to Europe during the 2014-15 season, signing with Elan Chalon in France before continuing his career with Pallacanestro Varese in Italy and AS Monaco.
Davies won the French Leaders Cup with Monaco in 2017, but his major breakthrough came after he joined Zalgiris Kaunas later that year.
During the 2018-19 EuroLeague season, Davies averaged 14.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists while earning All-EuroLeague First Team honors. He also won back-to-back Lithuanian League championships and the 2018 Lithuanian Cup with Zalgiris.
Success with Barcelona, Milan and Partizan
Davies' performances in Kaunas earned him a move to FC Barcelona in 2019.
He spent three seasons with the Spanish powerhouse, earning All-EuroLeague Second Team honors in 2020-21. Davies helped Barcelona win the Spanish championship in 2021 and lift the Spanish Cup in both 2021 and 2022.
The American big man subsequently spent the 2022-23 campaign with Olimpia Milano, winning the Italian championship, before returning to Spain with Valencia Basket.
Davies joined Partizan for the 2024-25 season and concluded his final EuroLeague campaign by averaging 9.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.5 assists across 33 appearances. He also helped the Serbian club capture the ABA League and Serbian League titles.
Across eight EuroLeague seasons with Zalgiris, Barcelona, Milan, Valencia, and Partizan, Davies appeared in 263 games and averaged 10.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and a 12.0 performance index rating.
